Local Oak Park Business Leader Joins Oak Park River Forest Rotary Club

Oak Park, Illinois – Tom Long, the owner and founder of Solid Oak Consulting, LLC , has joined the Oak Park River Forest Rotary Club.  The world’s first service club, the Rotary Club of Chicago, Illinois, USA, was formed on February 23, 1905 by Paul P. Harris, an attorney who wished to recapture in a professional club the same friendly spirit he had felt in the small towns of his youth.  The name “Rotary” derived from the early practice of rotating meetings among members’ offices.  Today, 1.2 million Rotarians belong to some 31,000 Rotary clubs in 166 countries.

“In addition to fostering high standards of ethical behavior, I joined Rotary because of its global humanitarian support projects such as The Rotary Foundation and Ambassadorial Scholarships,” said Long.  “Rotary supports both local and global needs through services including humanitarian grants and educational programs.”

Long first joined Rotary when he was living in Cincinnati, Ohio, but since moving to Oak Park in 2001, he has become increasingly active in a number of local organizations including the Oak Park River Forest Chamber of Commerce.  “My original experience with Rotary in Ohio showed me how valuable membership could be.  It’s a way to meet other Oak Park professionals, give back to the local community and have fun in the process”, said Tom.

Solid Oak Consulting, LLC is a management advisory firm dedicated to helping the owners of small and emerging businesses become more successful.  “The top three issues faced by most small business are increasing cash flow, increasing revenues and finding ways to manage the business for the long term”, said Long.  “Many small business owners, have no independent professional to consult with regarding the many problems and issues they face.  Similar to an outside director, this is the role I seek to play with my clients.”
